The Newport Nocturne women’s event is at risk due to a lack of entries. Although there are still two weeks to the closing date, men’s entries outnumber the women’s by more than five to one. The Nocturne is Britain’s original floodlit criterium and regularly attracts up to 15,000 spectators.

Promoter Nick Jeggo said “We really want to support women’s racing. Now that Lizzie Armitstead has won an Olympic medal, it’s the perfect time to showcase the talent we have in the UK. We really wanted to get behind the girls, so we replaced our popular ex-Pro’s event with this race. We are delighted to have a main sponsor and a points race sponsor who specifically want to back the women’s race. There’s plenty of ‘buzz’ about the event on Facebook and Twitter, but at present, it just isn’t being converted into entries.”
This is a fantastic opportunity to race in a unique atmosphere in front of massive crowds with a decent prize list, so come on ladies, get your entries in now!
The Newport Nocturne takes place on Saturday 1st September in Newport Shropshire. See www.bikerace.co.uk
